The individual artist or artists will be recognized in conference materials with one paragraph describing the winning submission and one biographical paragraph. The winning artist(s) will be granted one complimentary registration for the 2020 ASBH Annual Conference and a complimentary year of ASBH membership.

Justice and Flourishing in a Pluralistic World
ASBH’s 22nd Annual Conference takes place at a time when themes that preoccupy the bioethics and health humanities community are receiving increased national attention. By focusing on justice and flourishing, we invite submissions that interrogate, bolster, and reflect upon those themes and our past, present, and future ways of approaching them. We wonder: What does it mean to seek justice in a world where injustices are manifest? What does it mean to practice tolerance in a pluralistic society, yet also seek truth or certainty in response to moral dilemmas? How should we pursue social justice as educators, scholars, public intellectuals, clinicians, policymakers, and humanists? Should we do so at all? What is human flourishing, and what are the institutions and practices that support it? What role should we have in supporting human flourishing? We invite submissions responsive to questions like these, as well as submissions relating to perennial topics in bioethics and health humanities. We also invite interprofessional and interdisciplinary approaches to these subjects, including empirical bioethics, critical humanities, religious bioethics, activist scholarship, conceptual analysis, education theory, economic analysis, policymaking, and traditional methods in bioethics and health humanities.
There is no requirement to include the ASBH logo or text referring to the Annual Conference or the conference theme in the submission. Those items will be incorporated into the final overall design by the ASBH staff, using the winning design.
Any mixed media suitable for reproduction as a poster or cover are allowed, including computer-generated graphics and photographs. All submissions must be original art. No trademarked or copyrighted images or phrases shall be submitted as part of any design. ASBH will require written permission from any subject included in any photographs.
Digital designs should be submitted as a 300 dpi JPG or PDF. If a traditional painting or drawing is submitted, it should be scanned and sent as a 300 dpi JPG or PDF. Submission dimensions must be at least 8.5 x 11 inches. Larger sizes are acceptable.
Click here to fill out the contest application and upload a digital file no later than Noon Central Time on Friday, February 28, 2020.
