Collecting Personal Demographics Information

In June 2023, we began requesting anonymous personal demographic information from those with ASBH online profiles. The ASBH Board of Directors believes that the voluntary collection of personal demographic data will help ASBH better meet the needs of those engaging with ASBH. Collection of this data is a concrete process put in place to support the ASBH DEI strategic priority.

Scope: Personal demographic data (age, race, ethnicity, gender, and disability) will be collected in a secure, reliable, and transparent manner in partial fulfillment of our commitment to our DEI strategic priority. Individuals will be prompted to update their online profiles when 1) purchasing a new or renewed membership; 2) applying for or renewing the HEC-C designation; and 3) registering for the annual conference.

Participation is voluntary. Members and HEC-Cs will be given an opportunity to opt out and tell ASBH why they have opted out, or simply skip the questions. Collected data will be stored in ASBH’s member database. Individual demographics will only be accessible to ASBH staff and considered confidential. Only aggregate data will be shared with the Board of Directors. Any additional uses will need Board approval before implementation.
