Stony Brook University's new Center for Medical Humanities, Compassionate Care, and Bioethics is responsible for the medical school's extensive and highly regarded educational programs, and for initiatives across the university.
The Center seeks a faculty member with a record of scholarly interest in the humane and ethical treatment of persons with cognitive developmental disabilities, coupled with interest in neuroethics and child/ adolescent mental health. The Pennsylvania State Milton S. Hershey College of Medicine's Department of Humanities invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track position in humanities and / or social sciences. Established in 1967, PSU's Department of Humanities was the first in any American medical school and currently houses seven full-time faculty and over a dozen affiliated faculty-both M.D.s and Ph.D.s-from diverse backgrounds throughout the College of Medicine, the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, and Pennsylvania State University.
The Humanities Department teaches required courses in all four years of medical school. Additionally, faculty support graduate medical education via an annual residents' retreat; carry out the initiatives of the Doctors Kienle Center for Humanistic Medicine; and engage in collaborative, interdisciplinary research, teaching, and service throughout the Medical Center and the University.

The services provided by this position include leading and driving ethics initiatives and programs, and providing direct and indirect support to clinical and organizational practice through:
1. Program Building and Leadership
- Identifying the bioethics needs of the health service provider and developing specific goals related to the services they are purchasing
- At CVH this involves leading a comprehensive Ethics Program in planning, visioning, operational oversight, and program evaluation, and having accountability for outcomes and achievements
2. Clinical and Organizational Consultation:
- Establishing and providing accessible consultation services to staff, patients and their families as needed
- Supporting relevant organizational committees and working groups

Clinical Ethics Consultant
The Montefiore-Einstein Center for Bioethics seeks a full-time Clinical Ethicist for a fully funded position. The Clinical Ethicist will join Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center, NY city institutions that have been national leaders in ethics consultation and education. The Clinical Ethicist will consult on both individual ethics cases and organizational issues, analyze and improve consultation practices, and help develop institutional bioethics policies. The Ethics Consultant will join other Center associates in a range of ethics-related activities, including supervising medical students, residents and fellows; collaborating on innovative bioethics educational programs, and developing research and scholarship related to ethics consultation and related bioethics issues.
Qualified candidates will have a MD, JD, or graduate degree in social work, nursing or other health-related field; an additional degree in ethics is a benefit. Candidates will demonstrate experience with clinical ethics consultation, as well as ethics teaching and program development. Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills are essential, as are the ability to work with all disciplines in the healthcare team, clinical teaching experience, and an understanding of clinical processes and problem solving.
